Has setup-swift been abandoned?

This is an important project in the Swift open-source ecosystem, used by numerous projects. Setup-swift is the only GitHub action for Swift approved by the Apache Software Foundation [1].

@slashmo @fwal would you be able to offer any comment on the status of this project and if you intend to maintain this in the future?

I apologise for the late response and transparency regarding the state of the project but here we go:

Back in 2019 when I started this project I had a vision of creating Swift tools and libraries for the community and I used Swift day-to-day both professionally and privately.

When GitHub released Actions, while it was great, I realised that there was no easy way to get it set up for Swift, hence setup-swift was born.

Fast forward a couple of years and it became clear that there was more people than me that needed this too (GitHub even moved this into their official docs). However priorities at shifted at work and Swift was no longer part of our daily driver and pair that other changes in life meant that my Swift engagements turned to zero.

Around this time however I was approached by the Swift Server Group in an attempt at consolidating my efforts with similar work by other developers, sadly this died out as quickly as it was started and I was alone again.

From then I've tried to keep the project up-to-date but I'm afraid I've done a poor job and I'm sorry for that.

But enough of me rambling, let's look forward:

I'll do my best and continue on the v3 version that uses swiftly under-the-hood. This will remove the need for manually adding each new version of Swift. (Any testing of this version would be of great help).

I'll also try to schedule some reoccurring time for this project to try to deliver it at a state that the Swift community deserves.

Thanks for replying, it's really helpful for decision making, knowing whether a project has a future or not.

I think you might find there are developers that would be happy to lend a hand, if you post issues that need fixing, or publish a roadmap, for example.

Is v3 being developed in this repo? I can't find an obvious branch.
